My understanding is that the 12th (Yorkshire) and 13th (Lancs) Battalions were amalgamated in 1956. They in turn became part of 4 Para (V) in 1967. Bill apparently served in both 12th/13th and later 4 Para (v). If he was 91 it is likely he served during WW2,, but that was probably not as a part of the units that dropped at Arnhem. I think it is fair to say that the lists held by Paul Pariso and others, are very comprehensive and that efforts made by Airborne Medic and his various contacts indicate Bill was not an Arnhem vet. But full credit to him as one of the larger 'Para family' for his attendence at the commemorations and regular support of the events held in Arnhem.
It was so sad to see Bill upset by the children, but I guess underneath his determined attitude to life, was a man that was also gentle and a full of love for others. Bill Mountfield RIP Soldier
He said he joined in 1944 and served 6 years, then stayed in the TA afterwards. Regardless of exactly what he did, he did more than Ive ever done, so RIP old chap. Pete
