I'm thinking of going to the service at Oosterbeek cemetery on Sunday 20th. But I'm afraid it will be so crowded that as an ordinary member of the public I won't see anything. Maybe I'd do better to go to service at Nijmegen instead. Any advice?
If you there early there is a good change, you can still see something, I always stayed at the back of the cemetery, then at the end you can see most people pass by.

"My" spot, at the side, towards the Cross of Sacrifice, was then taken by a tv camera. Sh#$@. Philip's advice is very sound. You can also enjoy the band of the Parachute Regiment then, but they play afterwards as well. You could of course hire a wheelchair . Levien.
Hi levien, I saw that as well out at about 12000 feet or something like it in a Dak to if I remember right... Cheers Tom Red Devil(s) landing at Oosterbeek Memorial 2006. Levien.

Thanks, Philip, that is very useful. Is the following a correct definition of my options? EITHER be at Oosterbeek cemetery early (say 9 oclock) – get a place to see and hear everything – albeit standing for 3 hours OR be at Oosterbeek cemetery at, say, 10.30 – probably not see the service – but still hear everything – and see participants arriving and leaving OR go to the service at Nijmegen instead – which will be much less crowded (I suppose) - and go to the Oosterbeek service some other less crowded year. Anyone know anything about the Nijmegen service? Bart

Well folks I made it to Arnham & Oosterbeek, The weather was very hot so could not make the walk down to the Londale Church (Poorly Knee), Myself & the Wife got to the Cemetery as suggested by Paul , I took some great Photos and left after making are respects . We stopped for a bite to eat at the Schoonoord and I again got some photos, then went to the Hartenstein, The grounds are still being landscaped but I did find the Museum slightly disappointing it is geared to schoolchildren in my own opinion but the new underground Dioramas are very good thou. After a bit of confusion I managed to get to the John Frost Bridge where we stopped off at the Slag on Arnham / Battle of Arnham information centre below the bridge and met a nice Dutch chap who gave us a better insight of the battle, All in all a great day and an even better meal in the centre of Arnham. PS The cost for Books and DVDs was very very expensive as the £ to the euro was awful .
Hi Medic, Did you see Lipmann Kessel who was a Doctor at Arnhem.. He's buried just across the road in the public cemetery at Oosterbeek.. Cheers Tom

Do you happen to know if there will be any royalty present? Levien. To answer my own question. In my tv-guide I read that on sunday 20th on Nederland 1 23.40h-00.30h (sorry, Dutch only) there will be a overview of the commemorations of that day and Queen Beatrix and Prince Philip will be present at the cemetery. Take your cameras with you!!! Levien.
or something else, seeing that we(the dutch) all have to go back financial steps in 2010, but the Royals still get 40 million to SPEND!
They have just left their coaches half an hour ago but now already on my site. The arrival of the Arnhem1944 veterans in oosterbeek. OPERATION MARKET GARDEN 2009 Ron
