Good afternoon, can anyone tell me anything about the above please. I have a photo of my father in law which says on the back that the photo was taken at this club in 1945. I guess it is a place where people took some leave. I've tried to reverse search the image on Google but nothing came up.

    Hi Nigel,

Der Spiegel Newspaper says the club was at the main train station; but I think the location is Lübeck. (I’ll attach a screen shot of the Spiegel pic.)

Someone on a German forum was asking about the same place back in 2013:
[geklärt] Welches Gebäude vor der Holstentorhalle? - Seite 3 - geschichtsspuren.de - Forum

    Apple translation:

    The Crusader Club 1946

    Hello guys,

Looking for something completely different in this forum, I came across this old question.

I have a small album from the estate of a British officer. There is also the photo, which was already published when the question was asked. The other photos in my album show that there was "THE CRUSADER CLUB" there at least for Christmas 1946. On a sign I read "for O.R´s", which probably stands for "officers rank". So a restaurant for officers of the occupation force in Lübeck. There was beer and also music + dance.

It is possible that the restaurant was already used by the military or party organisation for any purpose before 1945. The question is still somewhat open in this regard.

    Greetings from Südholstein

    FIELD POST

And the screen shot from Google Books says the club was near the Holstentor (also in Lübeck)

Good morning Jules, trying to work my way through the German forum postings, it looks like the place was demolished. Using the locations as I understand them from the post and using Google Street View, most of the area where I think it was looks either very new or redeveloped at some stage. Thanks for the tips, I'll keep working on it.

My father mentioned that he was a guard at the Crusader Club in Hamburg in 1946.
He said that the troops came in every night creating havoc.
According to his army record he was stationed at Hamburg so there was a Crusader Club there but may be not the one pictured previously.

    Hello Nigel.

Dug this out regarding the Crusader Club today. The place in full swing must have been a riot, and why not after what the chaps out there had been through.

    Kind regards, always,

    Jim.

I would just like to point out that a sign 'ORs only', would mean exactly the opposite to what was 'explained' above. OR stands for Other Ranks (i.e. NOT officers)
