I have been trying to follow the Army Service Record of my wife's father. Does anyone know what "Leave with RRA privileges" means and also "Admitted ICH ex Baragwanath". I know that Baragwanath is a Miltary Hospital in Durban SA, but I am at a loss as to what ICH is.
Hello Bourney " Leave with RRA Privileges." mean's regular ration allowances. All army personnel, when granted leave would be given allowances. As far as I know there are two other's. La. it's either local, or lower & the other is HRM, which mean's higher rate messing, normally relating to having any kind of trade or skill . Not sure about the second question!! Is there any chance you can post the records? If I can give you some advice, not sure if you have already done it, but spend a few hours at a time reading the different posts on army service records, when you get chance. Some really good reading. Wills is your man! Regards Stuart
Thanks for that snippet of information, the translation of my wife's fathers Army Service is almost complete except for "Admitted ICH ex Baragwanath". Baragwanath eventually became a hospital to treat TB, so I am wondering if ICH was to do with Chest, Consumption or something along those lines.
Hello, Just a guess but:- ICU = Intensive Care Unit so possibly, ICH = Intensive Care Hospital Rgds Pete
Thanks Snailer, tried that option but there seems to be a definate lack of that type of facility in that location
Spotted here:- http://www.chrishanibaragwanathhospital.co.za/history After experimenting with various names, it was finally agreed that this hospital would be "The Imperial Military Hospital, Baragwanath". I wonder if it could be a clerical error and the records should read I.M.H. Baragwanath.
ICH is a medical abreviation for intracerebral hemorrhage (Brain haemorrhage) but you probably know this? Kyle
