Hello can any one find any info please on a James Ronald FLEMING Served WW1 in Coldstream Guards as an officer- and some one of this name served WW2 on General List with number 115187 - I just need to tie the two together to see if the same man - is there anything in the Army List that mentions previous gazette dates so I can cross refer. Thanks Ian
Yes. what Im hoping is that the entry in the ww2 list shows a date that matches the ww1 gazette date - which will pretty much confirm its the same person
Bumping this up again hoping to make the connection. All I found was his Coldstream officers papers are missing suggesting he transferred regiments on a permanent basis
All I seem to keep finding is : James Fleming Private Coldstream Guards Service number 16480 Could this be him - he is mentioned in UK, Silver War Badge Records, 1914-1920 due to his injuries TD
No, he was a pte but only ever an officer in the cg. It was a struggle to find him in the LG for ww1 but did eventually.
Have you thought of contacting the Coldstream Guards directly for them to check through their archives?? TD edited to add : Perhaps here - Archives
I was there Wednesday. His file is missing which in my experience means he was no longer in the regiment. James Ronald Fleming isn't a common name but don't want to assume the ww1 officer is same person as found in 1942 army list
cg It will become confusing for members if you keep starting new threads for the same person What other details do you have for him. One of my assumptions is that IF he was in WW1 then he would have been born on or before 1900 - I cannot find a James Ronald Fleming thats fits that in England, Wales or Ireland. However there is a possible in Scotland James Ronald Fleming 1897– BIRTH ABT 1897 • Kelso, Roxburgh, Scotland DEATH Unknown Roxburgh ironically is very close to Coldstream TD
the service number you quoted This search tool can match army numbers from the 1920's to the end of World War 2 Pre 1920's, soldiers had regimental numbers so this site cannot be used for matching those. The army number: 115187 indicates that the soldier's original unit or date joined was: "Royal Army Service Corps (Block 1)" http://www.corpsofmilitarypolice.org/tools/armynumber?query=115187
And yes he was born Kelso, Scotland, In January 16 he was 20 and 3 months suggesting October 1895 birth . I know family info just cant 100% confirm that its the same man in ww1 and ww2
