    Hi All,

Does anyone have a photograph or other image of Cherrytree Army Camp, Colchester circa WW2.

I have had a quick browse on the web, but nothing from that time seems to be around. It was situated on the Mersea Rd. but is no longer there and become swallowed up by a new housing estate.

As a fortunate bi-product of doing some research for another post on the forum, I discovered that my Grandad's unit (9th Devon's) stayed at Cherrytree in 1941-42.

    Many thanks.

    Bamboo.

Have just been researching Cherry Tree Camp and found it - I believe - on Cherry Tree Lane, Colchester which is a small lane off Mersea Road. The Cherry Tree pub is at the head of the lane - post code of pub is CO2 0AW

Attached is a photo of Nissen Huts there from Google Maps Street View taken in 2009.

    Hope this helps Bamboo

    More:

    Found this:
Between 1977 and 1990 the former Cherry Tree army camp, in the north-west corner of East Donyland civil parish (formerly in Fingringhoe) was redeveloped as a civilian housing estate with c. 200 houses and a primary school.

The Primary School is across the road from the camp on Cherry Tree Lane so is probably the remnant of a much larger camp.

One of my relatives was based there in 1950s when serving in 5 Corps Signal Regiment
