One thing that I have learned from this thread is that combining sun glasses with a Pith helmet is guaranteed to throw tropical credibility straight out of the window.

Interesting photos Jim. The funeral scenes are most impressive. So ordered and timeless. They can't have imagined how quickly it was all going to end. Some cracking haircuts on the pall bearers.

'Trafalgar' certainly went over hard. I wonder if the shed tyre was the cause or a consequence ?

The guy in the helmet seems keen to get involved in whatever is going on in the little tent. Ah they'd been taking pictures in an Italian nightclub!

The good colonel's trousers wouldn't be out of place with some youth today :D

I have attached some photo's of my late father and his fellow friends with Pith helmets on and off during their time in Palestine and Cyprus 1936-37, hope they are of interest? He served in C Company 1st Battalion Royal Sussex Regiment from 1935-1946 in the middle east (part of 4th Indian Div) from 1936 untill wounded and returned to UK in 44.

Nice to see, Nigebe! Lovely photos of the Royal Sussex, the photo of them practising on the Lewis really evokes the immediate pre WW2 era!
Very clear pics too. Big fan. :D
