Using information from various sources, im trying to understand which Brigades 1st RTR was part of, and the dates when it changed from one Brigade to another. I think it went like this:

    7th - ?
    4th - Dec 1939
    7th - Nov 1940
    3rd - ?
    22nd - Oct 1942

Can anyone tell me if this is correct, and possibly fill in the missing gaps please.

Their stint with 3 and 32 Armoured Brigades was in Tobruk, where they arrived on 9 April. They were equipped with Cruisers and light tanks during the period, most of which they lost during the breakout. Their stint with 1 Armoured Brigade must have been for re-equipping and training after this, since 1 Armoured Brigade did not become operational again after the desaster in Greece, until June 1942.

    All the best

This is according to Joslen: Orders of Battle.
The periods are adjusted to the renaming of the respective brigades (brigade name changed while 1st RTR is under command):
    03.09.39 - 15.02.40 Heavy Armoured Brigade (Egypt)
    16.02.40 - 10.04.40 4th Heavy Armoured Brigade
    10.04.40 - 13.04.40 7th Light Armoured Brigade
    14.04.40 - 03.04.41 7th Armoured Brigade
    09.04.41 - 18.09.41 3rd Armoured Brigade
    18.09.41 - 21.01.42 32nd Army Tank Brigade
    21.01.42 - 06.03.42 1st Armoured Brigade
    07.03.42 - 01.06.42 1st Armoured Brigade Group
    03.06.42 - 07.07.42 4th Armoured Brigade Group
    17.09.42 - 31.08.45 22nd Armoured Brigade

    Three good answers, thankyou.

I did'nt know that the information I wanted was called 'Orders of Battle'. You learn something new everyday! Hope my ''schoolboy' type questions dont annoy you seasoned experts :)

By the way, im trying to get an understanding of what 1st RTR were doing, and when, and from that try and make a timeline which I can then add my information about my Grandfather as and when I find it. Up to now, I was zig zagging around full of enthusiasm and excitement, but not really getting anywhere, or understanding anything.
