Just read in that 'Prisoners of the Japanese' book that many Allied POWs died because they simply refised to eat Rice. Even though it was all there was, and little enough at that.

Aha, I've found the Field Kitchen thread !

Perhaps not a bad idea to re-post the photo that I posted yesterday in a thread which is probably doomed to be locked.

This kitchen, although German, also includes gourmet cuisine for French and Belgians, but then they'd have to pull it themselves.

...And this is a 9x6 that I got carried away bidding for on ebay, hoping that I could bring up more detail on the Norton in the background. I should know better by now.

Presumably the winter of 1940/41 which makes it surprising that the WD census number is still visible.

It's interesting that there always seems to be an officer present, even with the most humble of kitchens.

Well found Rich, I knew it was out there somewhere.
May have to add to the title somewhat...

That nice Kfz. website's appeared since I last looked here, few Field kitchen shots on there:
    Heeresfahrzeuge

Hmm, time to trawl the Bundesarchiv perhaps.
And I now want to know what officially goes in all those drawers on a feldkuche, wonder if there's a stowage diagram out there.
(I'm mostly trying to tip CS over the edge into getting one. I don't think it'd take that much to make him finally snap.)

    Another eBay auction.

The cook seems pleased with his efforts.

    It's all field kitchens today.

This is an interesting image of the end-users filling up their canteens.

I hope that they were feeling cold and hungry and regretting their attempted domination of Europe.

Even colder here - the kitchen has received a coat of winter camouflage and the whole thing is mounted on a sled. I bet that it's not what they expected when they signed on for the Lufwaffe.

    Great pics, Rich.
Second one looks like they've had a rough old day doesn't it, and I do like the hats in the third.

Of course I don't know anything about Horses... except they can really hurt when they run you down. Aah, the wet towels rammed down the trousers, what a day.
Cheers for that Feldkockbuch thought, I'm now condemned to an evening of trying to track down a full version of it online somewhere.

    Saw this on Arrse today:

Some nice pics on there too.

I recall in the mid 60s the Army was trialing some Soya Meat called Texegram the texture was similar to beef and surprisingly good in stews and currys
