    Thx for that Jedburgh.
My dad was in the Ardennes with 6th Airborne, you dont see a whole lot of film or photos.
My dad grew up in Glace Bay, Canada but he always said that the Ardennes was the coldest place he had been in!

The 6th Airborne Division fought in the Rochefort area in January 1945, which was very cold, with lots of snow.

The Battle of the Bulge often is associated with a scenery shrouded in snow. However, there was no snow in the initial phase of the German Offensive.

It had been snowing in late November 44 and the higher parts of the Ardennes and the Eifel were covered by snow, but by 16 December 44, the day the Germans launched their big attack, most of it had disappeared. If you look at the films/photos of the initial phase of the offensive, you see no snow at all. Snow began to fall later.

Maybe there is some weatherexpert over here on the site, who could expand on this subject.

    Yes,
One of the "Battered bastards of Bastogne" said that day 1 was sunny and warm!

Nice shots, those youtube videos are mix and match type of things, you can see footage from all parts and time of the conflict. Note the PzII in overall Panzer Grau with early war marking, for instance...

And I like that GI on the 3rd photograph too, carrying MP44 and his colleague on his right hand has a Schmeisser?
I know this picture of the Kingtiger, but have really never payed any attention to those two boys.

It's all about the sun, moisture and the wind. I'll take a calm, dry, sunny day even in low minus temperatures any time in favour of those windy, damp, overcast days. Goes right through you. Worse still if you're huddled in a foxhole.

I was talking to Old Hickory about German weapons. He said that in his outfit, they did not carry German weapons. He said that they knew the difference between the sounds made by German and US weapons and did not want one of their own mistaking them for the enemy when they fired the weapon.

This is a little of this topic so I apologise, but does anyone know if the American 3rd Infantry division fought in the Ardennes in 1944?

    Many thanks, Scott:D

No the US 3d Infantry Division did not fight in the Ardennes, but the US 3d Armored Division did.

In December 1944, the US 3d ID was in the French Vosges assigned to the US Seventh Army. But because the German Nordwind Operation in January 1945, the US 3d ID is credited with the Ardennes-Alsace Campaign.
