The memorial at Campo di Carni, the Flyover at Anzio, has been covered over since last September by a newsagents shop! I discovered this when I was in Anzio with a group last week.

This is how it looked in September:

The plaque is stuck behind it on the wall:

:( Is that just bad planning/lack of thought or has it been done intentionally?

I suspect a bit of both to be honest.

    Paul.

From memory, there is more than one sign at the site.

I will get in touch with the Museum in Anzio town and see if they can get it re-positioned.

I think the planning officer has left his name on the wall, best ask for him personally at the planning office. ;)

Paul, I don't have words! As Italian citizen, I would like to apologize for this disrespectful to the soldiers died in Anzio.
I am ashamed for who gave the permissions; I've friends in Anzio, but as member of an association of military-historical research, I'll call directly the City of Anzio, for explanations and ask an immediate resolution of this act of vandalism. :(

Somebody sure wasn't thinking. Shows a complete lack of respect.

    Cheers

I think there should be a successful resolution once the authorities have been notified!

    Paul.

This issue is resolved. I received this from Anzio.

The plaque in Campo di Carne has been placed on the opposite side of the Via Nettunense, in front of the newsstand.

    Dear friends,
more than three months ago, when I had read this 3d the first time, I was very sad, and you can find in my first reply my feeling and sorrow; but the day after the bad news, I was immediately at work, looking for a solution, so the following week I went to the City of Aprilia (Campo di Carne is in the City of Aprilia) for the first meeting with someone there that could give us some answers.
We have written and sent an official comunication from our Association (Associazione Linea Gustav) to the Major of the City to officially inform him, about the memory plaque covered from the news stand, so after this act and thanks also to my friend Giuseppe Mindopi (the person in charge for our Association in the area of Aprilia/Anzio/Nettuno) and the help of the Assessor Luigi Bondonna, the hidden memory plaque has been replaced the day before yesterday with another one in the same place where it was originally, in 1979.
I'm very happy that it was ready for the visit of the group led from Paul, at the presence of several people, the City of Aprilia and the British veterans which were really moved.
It has been a great afternoon of commemoration, remembering all the soldiers who lost their life for our freedom.
Paul knows perfectly all the difficulty that we have had, to solve the issue as soon possible, but finally, as I told him at the end of the day:
    "mission completed!" :)

I think that the new monument built last year close the bridge (circa 200 feets from the old plaque) on a roundabout of the Genio Civile road, is really nice and it's a great sign of respect for all the soldiers died there.

This is the kind of Italy that I love:

    All the best. Damiano

P.S. Hi Minden, the plaque on the opposite side of the Via Nettunense was there since 1979, because in origin (as now) the metal memory plaques, placed below the bridge, were two. So now, we have 2 memory plaques in metal plus a new monument on the roundabout.
