Thanks for the Disc Andy, makes all my research worthwhile when you see your dads name on a War Diary. Great!

Bit of a surprise. I ordered--among many other things--the following diary:

WO 169/7529 4 Indian Division HQ 1942 Jan, June, Aug-Dec

According to Andy, it weighs in at 953 pages for those seven months.

    Excited to see it, but...

Don't mention it to Mrs Fortnum, eh?

I recently received 23H and 13/18H war diaries from Drew. Excellent service and much better than a personal trip (as I live in the USA). Highly recommended.

There is one for HQ 1st AA Brigade 'RASC' WO166/2220. June 1940 - July 41 so its unfortunately post your date, even if it was this one. I got as far as copying the cover, the rest on a to do list. Hopefully Drew can answer you and confirm if it is this one or something else.

Please can you tell me what you charge to find war diaries?

Andy charges 10p per page (any size) with free postage worldwide. Second World War-Era British & Commonwealth army war diaries are typically 200 to 400 pages including appendices, but a few are much longer and some are missing or have been destroyed.

To identify what you want you can either go to the National Archives website and play with their DISCOVERY search engine or, if you can't find something, send Andy the unit name and dates you are interested in (or just post it here and someone will dig it out for you). He usually only copies 'complete files', which are usually yearly bundles--you can't request 19/7/42 to 12/11/42.
