I'm looking for information about this regiment for the period 26-31 October 1943 and if there is, by any chance, mention of 3126761 Corporal Daniel McIntyre. (He died on 30 October 1943). I found a request for info about him here: Archved Forum But the email address is now no good. If anyone can help, it would be nice Jules.
From my records, I can tell you that Daniel was in A Coy of the 2nd Bn RSFand I believe he fought at Hill60 during the retreat to Dunkirk. Are you a relative?
Thank you for the information. No, I'm not a relative. My interest in Daniel is linked to research I have been doing regarding my Great Uncle who was with 2 Northants and who was killed in the same area on 30/10/1943. I now have the war summaries for October 1943 for 2 RSFs and although there is no mention of Daniel it says: [Spinete] 30/10/43 - 0030 Fighting patrol sent out and at 0745 - Fighting patrol returned - reported one man missing. I am currently assuming that the missing man mentioned in this entry was Daniel McIntyre, unless someone tells me any different.
The RHF museum used to have archive material on their website, but I believe it was removed. They have some RSF material but the building was broken into and a fire started back in 1985, and much RSF material was lost. If you contact them I'm sure thye will be able to help: http://rhf.org.uk/rhf/index.php?option=com_content&view=article&id=66&Itemid=80
Thanks very much for that information, it's very much appreciated ! I will definitely contact them to see if they can help. Jules.
John. I am a battlefield guide for Cassino and I am in the CWGC Cemetery a lot. If you would like a photo of your grandfather's headstone, do say and I will get you one. No bother. He was killed in the period between crossing the River Volturno on 15 Oct 43 and the capture of Monte Trocchio in front of the Cassino feature on 15 Jan 44 so I am not familiar with the circumstances of his death.
