A few of my friends have asked me of any books about Germany 1918-1945 as we are studing the Weimar Republic and the rise of Nazism in Germany so can any body recommend a good historical book about the period.
    Thanks

    Try these:

The Rise and Fall of the Third Reich, by William Shirer

The Third Reich: A New History, by Michael Burleigh

A Social History of Nazi Germany, by Richard Grunberger

    Trail Sinister, by Sefton Delmer

    Berlin Diary, by William Shirer

Inside the Third Reich, by Albert Speer

Speer: His Battle With Truth, by Gitta Sereny

There's a new book out, called The Coming of the Third Reich, whose author I cannot remember.

The author is Richard J Evans. It is an excellent study of the rise of the Nazis and their early days in power and I eagerly await the next book in this series.

On a slightly less serious level, Len Deighton's novel Winter is a fascinating story of a better off Berlin family from 1900 to 1945. The story is a prequel to his Game, Set and Match espionage trilogy.

Plus, of course, there are Christopher Isherwood's writings from the 1930s, but I have not read them.
