    Hi,
I was wondering if the bombs dropped during ww2 had batteries in them as part of their makeup....because some of the devices that have exploded quite lately after being moved. would have thought if they had batteries in them they would be really run down by now.

I think it more likely to be an anti tampering mechanism.

Remember all explosives are chemicals as already stated the use of acid or acetone (not sure if correct spelling) to trigger the bombs came in fuzes that where set for a certain time lapse eg: on striking the ground, or anything up to 24 hours.
After 60+ plus years the bombs contents will have become very volatile and even the slightest movement will set off a chain reaction.
I have read that the filling turns to a form of liquid and is unstable if you liken this to a part empty bottle of fizzy drink that is shaken it froths up the same will happen inside the bomb setting off the contents.

I know from reading a book called UXB that in the late fiffties early sixties when the major cities where being redeveloped the german bombs found once the fuze/booby traps had been removed the contents were steamed out and once solid taken away and either set on fire or blown up in a controled explosion.

    Hope this helps

I believe you are talking about the Electronic Eye that was fitted to Parachute Land Mines and worked of a sensor like principle.
I am sure but not certain that they kept them covered whilst defusing the actual mine, if you have an interest then see if you can get a copy of Bill Hartleys story by a person called Fryan Turner from abebooks or your local library.
