    Hello Everyone,
Am researching a German bomber Ju 88 that was brought down by AA fire over Wrexham area (North Wales) in Nov 1941.
    The Information I have is;
    1. Belived Location of AA unit - Kinnerton Wrexham.
    2. J88 crashed Brookside Farm English/Welsh border.
What AA unit was stationed at Kinnerton the took out this bomber?

I know it a long shot but any ino and direction you may have would greatly appreciated....

Sorry, I don’t know England and all its districts that well, so I’ll just post this and hopefully you can sort out and AA candidate units. Source is at the bottom. I “think” the 4th Anti Aircraft Division is the area and unit’s that may be responsible for the area you are looking at??

You can apply online to the GRO for a £7 pdf copy of his death certificate - this will confirm location and cause of death.

    Deaths Dec 1941
    Von Klein Josef __ W.Cheshire 8a 653

The entry confirms district of death registration as West Cheshire - Volume 8a, page 653.

Cannock Chase was a concentration cemetry where post war most German service people were brought to after being exhumed from local graves where the died. One or two still remain buried locally but that was at the decision of either relatives and/or local community.

    Hi Ross,
My thoughts entirely with the concentration of of "German Graves" ... we seem to have different locations of death West Cheshire & Norfolk...!!

With my research they were taken to Wrexham after the crash and documented/buried etc before maybe taken to Staffordshire... The Norfolk maybe a mistake!

    Thank you for your input

    Hi
My hunch is you need to take a look at WO 166/2259, 33AA Brigade Diary for March - December 41 and WO 166/2141 which I do have a copy of but only up to June 41. I'm not sure there was much AA around Wrexham itself so would make a guess that the aircraft was damaged further north over Merseyside or possibly Crewe. The diaries I do have point to possible AA units but could be a wild goose chase in the absence of something definite in the two diaries above. I would be fairly certain that a note of the incident and the regiment / battery most likely responsible will exist somewhere.

Brilliant thank you will get the diaries of the 33 AA bde...I did think it may of sustained damage over its objective..

Interesting, the good old Patriot files, which ripped off my website many years back, and posted my AA Command order of battle intact. At least you quoted your source. All of the British Commonwealth orders of battle for 3 September 1939 were taken from my site by the Patriot Files. I guess that 'Patriot' has a different meaning nowadays as we can see here in the US.

Sorry, I just found it while searching the web for info for this thread, did not know it belong originally to you. As you pointed out, I posted my sources for information I find normally (“normally”, sometimes I forget). Is their a site you host that I can use for research information??

I am not faulting you but complimenting your integrity. My site has been gone for many years but if you have some needs let me know. Back in 2001, Bruce Swain published a book entitled “A Chronology of the Australian Armed Forces at War 1939-45”. He took most of his appendices from my site. At least I got an apology from the publisher and a promise to give me credit in any future editions. After that and the Patriot Files situation, I took the site down. In both cases, if they had asked I would have given permission to use the material, giving me credit. A number of other authors have used my material and have given me credit, which I appreciate.

The vast majority, but l believe possibly not quite all, of German WW2 graves were exhumed from their original burial locations around the UK and re-interred at Cannock at the behest of the Federal Government of West Germany and the U.K.post war. There was an AA site at Kinnerton under the southern approach to Liverpool and the other important Mersey estuary ports, industry and petrochemical sites. The AA site eventually became a POW hostel.

    Hi Osborne2..

We have seen the original register of the pilots that were taken to Wrexham and it does state that they were moved to Stafford...all this came out from this week.

OMG.. the information about the AA site at kinnerton is great news. Could you please give me more information on this?

My photos from June 2022 show the German casualties are still buried in Hitchin cemetery Hertfordshire so as said not all bodies were reburied in Cannock
