I'm wondering if it isn't South African? They have some unusual badges and were in North Africa at this time.
I've tried zooming in but it pixels too soon. The top part of the badge (3 prongs ish) looks a bit like a maple leaf (Canadian) or three feathers seen on some Welsh cap badges. Sorry I can't be of any more help Kieron. Cheers Andy
Good call Tom Cavalry Regiments British Army Cap Badges Glengarry Badge Shako Helmet & Belt Plates Regimental Insignia
I had a look at the link and I don't think its those guys, the badge appears again on the chap crouching down on the right, but if you look at these chaps they also have a shoulder flash, I hope you are able to see it on my scan, its a three banded horizontal flash.
Kieron - not unusual for tank regiment to have shoulder flashes - we all had them - the 145th regt RAC had the Aston Villa colours of Claret & Blue - 48th RTR had purple and gold and were thus referred to as "Golden Tracks" - 2nd RTR had the modified Tank colours of light brown- dark brown - red - and green...."from the sands of the desert - through the mud - blood - to the green fields beyond."....still think it's 12th Lancers although the guy in the middle does look Polish e specially with all the gongs Cheers
Well I finally found it and the winner (drum role please) is Mr Paul Reed and the regiment is the South African Railways and Harbours Brigade. Thanks so much everyone for your help realy do appreciate it and a big pat on the back for Paul
Good call Paul - at that time of course in the desert there were South African's - Australians - Polish - Indians - and a few British - but not the 12th Lancers ! Cheers
