Well done, Soren. I very much enjoy when you post these images.

I would appreciate, if you have already done so and in the posting I've missed it, an image of a Poilu -- a sort of 1917 non-com with a pipe and a handle bar mustache type, deep lines in the face and a wary look in the eye. I remember seeing a movie years ago with one of the French soldiers who looked like this and it has stuck in my mind. He smoked a pipe and thought much and spoke little.

    Thank you again for posting.

Soren, I will never understand this but the fact remains that your talent for drawings is unquestioned!! Great sketches. Have you given this to your dog walker yet?

Yes I have they loved it! they are Ieper residents so I imagine that the soldier could be related certainly an unusual name, mind you I do not understand what a usual name is in Flemish!

It seems to be a pretty scarce name in the area (well, it was back then anyway!). As far as I can see, there were only 2 fallen Belgians in WW1 with that name (the other was a guy from up nearer the coast) so it's certainly not common.

(Mind you, my surname wasn't all that common (in England) back then either and I've got no relationship at all to the 21 or so on the CWGC listings, even though some appear to be from my "neck of the woods", so there may be no relationship at all!)

    Dave.
