Two men have gone to a lot of trouble to place two slices of bread exactly opposite each other on the World's surface thus producing an Earth sandwich. This makes the Anglo French Silly Walk Project "La Marche Futile" look a serious endeavour. Have we now seen the peak of pointlessness?

Is it really 20,000 km from one side of the Earth to the other?
I thought it was somewhere around 8,000 miles or around 13,000 km.
If so, how thick were those slices?

Possibly it's 10,000k as the very weary crow flys - not as the mole tunnels
