The soldier is Milburn Hinke, officially the first American soldier to set foot in Europe during WW2 when he arrived by ship in Belfast as part of the A.E.F.

    Hi,

Do you have a year for the photos - I would assume 1943 onwards. My father was stationed in Londonderry 1940 - 1942, and is where he met his wife (my mother) so I have many happy memories from there and Donegal where I have other relations.

    Hi TD,

Milburn Henke arrived in 1942 and the Naval Personnel date from 1945.

More information on my ww2ni website which I am sure you will find useful as it shows lots of the Bases in Londonderry and outlying areas.

    Hi,

Yes I have looked at your site a few times, as I was researching my father who was in 2/7th Royal Warks and moved to Londonderry with 182nd Infantry Bde in July 1940. He met my mother there and they married in 1942, honeymooning in Portrush. Bishop Street is somewhere we went quite often when I was young, as my mums family still lived there. Her birth certificate (my mothers) shows her initial residence at birth as Governor Road, Londonderry.
