Hello lee my grandad was in the 7 field re On the 11 he was in the Reece party on the Congo and got injured but don’t no if he went on to build the Amazon bridge. It does say in the book about people being evacuated but he’s name is not one of them I’ve been reading Thomas Riordan’s book (the 7th field company 1939-1946)he was a friend of my grandads I’m in the process of trying to get his records Thanks Dave
Dave, I'll dig out my grandad's memoirs to see he makes any mention of the days. I remember he was in contact with Thomas Riordan back in the mid-1980s when grandad was doing his research.
You will find a lot of interesting stuff about the bridge on here. 7 Sqn. association are in the throes of constructing a memorial at the site of the bridge, search facebook for 7 Fd Sqn RE The link to Georg's site is here, enjoy. shinyseventhonthegustavline
Hi all, Thank you all so much for the fascinating posts. I’m Jack Stamper’s granddaughter and I’m so proud of him and of everyone else in the company. It would be great to hear from others!
Emma. If you would like to see the site of the crossing, and hear the awesome story, I am taking a group to Cassino on 10-14 Oct 24. Regards Frank
