Hi guys, Trying to trace my Great Grandads military service, I haven't much information on him as all I have of him is his lanyard, cap badge and Royal Artillery patch. He served in the Royal Artillery in Germany so am wondering where the best place to look would be? Thanks Jack
Hi Jack. You really need to apply for his service record for detailed info. Get a copy of military service records: Overview - GOV.UK Best Rob
One, 5117419 Pte A Weale listed as a PoW in 45 but Leicestershire Regt not RA One Lt A Weale RASC in the casualty lists but RASC. (11 A Weale mentions in total but my subscription has lapsed so cannot see which units ) One Gnr A Weale listed RA attestment books with a 1938 enlistment? Kyle
Yeah he's definitely Royal Artillery as I have his RA patch, and I'm not sure about the last one I'll have to look, could be that one I'll have to ask my Gran but she most likely won't remember.
Hi, It may be your grandfather if he enlisted directly into RA - but some RA units were formed/converted from previous infantry units so will not have RA service numbers. Your best bet is to get his service papers from MOD. Steve Y
