Clare, welcome to the forum. Your grandfather is recorded on Army Casualty list No. 977 dated 10 November 1942: Wounded, Middle East Reconnaissance Corps 6400590 Gent Tpr AG / 44 Regt / Date not reported Note that it states 44 Recce, could well be an error or perhaps he was transferred between units. His service number suggests that he was initially in the Royal Sussex Regiment. Have you sent off for his service records? Get a copy of military service records: Overview - GOV.UK Edit: sorry, should have said nice photos
yes he nearly died over there but survived and stayed there im not sure how long for but among the pics you can see it says 5th recce 1943 and 1944
Hi Clare Thanks for posting the lovely photos of your dad. Are there any names on the back of any of them? Lesley
Brilliant photos Clare , do get your Grandfather's full service records , you will have a lot better idea of what he got up to ( if you've read my thread's you'll see it can throw up some rather embarrassing bits ha ha !! ) good luck and stay in touch . Terry
