Hello, Alan joined EYR in 1938 (T.A) at 19. Served in France, evacuated at Dunkirk, in North Africa, captured, POW work included aftermath of Dresden. Escaped towards end of the war. Lives in Hull, has not taken the plunge of getting the interned so I've agreed to assist him (daughter, Kay) in getting started. Alan would be more than happy to share first hand knowledge of events with anyone interested. This looks like a great site, friendly and interesting. If anyone has a particular forum to suggest please do so. Thanks
Hi Kay and welcome to the forum. Please pass on my best wishes to your father and I'm sure I speak on behalf of other forum members when I say I'm looking forward to his recollections. Not wishing to bombard you with 100's of questions to ask him but I thought it would be rude not to ask a couple. So would you be kind enough to ask: What Battalion and Company was he in when he deployed to France? Regards Andy
Will get back to you with this info. All I know is he was in the 5th regiment, a private, a driver for officers, at Dunkirk for three days waiting for "his turn". Too late to call him now, will forward more details, thanks so much for your interest and welcome.
Hi Alan (Kay), Welcome to the forum from Australia. Alan, you will find much interest here for your experiences. From an Australian point of view, North Africa would be of interest as my father was with the Australian 6th division which took Bardia and Tobruk. Cheers Geoff
Hello and welcome to both of you. I am looking forward to reading more about your experiences during the war Alan Jules.
Welcome to the forum Alan (and Kay). I have already posted on the '5th Battalion East Yorkshire Regiment' thread in response to your entry there. There are a few people currently investigating family that served with the 5th Bn East Yorkshire Regiment, including the son and daughter in law of an Officer and I have have been trying to assist them. It would be excellent if you could lend a veterans hand/perspective. I guess that you will recognise my Avatar?!? Speak soon! Best, Steve.
Good morning Alan and Kay and a belated welcome to WW2 Talk, one of the better boards on the internet.
