Hi Everyone, It`s been a long 12 months wait but well worth it ! I was originally looking for any information about a Horsa glider that was shot down in operation Varsity carrying my grandfather . The story i had been told was that it was was shot down by flack, he was injured and hiding from the Germans , found by the Americans the next day , that was all i knew . He was L/Bdr Sidney Stride 3rd Airlanding Anti Tank Battery RA. I had read all the books and war diaries available about 6th airborne, gliders and Varsity landings but they had nothing to add to the story . After the long wait his records have arrived , i was not too optimistic about what they would reveal . I was delighted to find the exact Chalk number of that glider along with lots of other info . That one number Chalk 390 has unlocked the whole story . This is what i have compiled from other sorces, He flew from Great Dunmow airfield with B troop HQ1 in horsa 390 , piloted by Glider Pilot G squadron destined for LZ P, It was shot down landed far south of LZ in American area ,load shot up by MG fire and had to be abandoned . So to all those waiting for records be patient and you will be rewarded i`m sure . I do need some help with some other info in the records , He was posted in 1942 to 103 A/T Reg RA in Hale before his posting to the airborne unit, any one know of this reg , i cant find anything about them . One more thing i neeed to change my user Id , he was paid an extra shilling a DAY airborne pay not a week ! If any one would like to see his records and help with the abrieviations i`ll try and upload them Regards Paul
There's only two Home Forces diaries for that regiment and I'm wondering if they were formed in Dec 1942? WO 166/7122 103 AT Regimet 1942 Dec. WO 166/11363 103 AT Regiment 1943 Jan.- Aug.
There you go then mate-I think they may have been a newly formed regiment 103 went to the Med/N. Africa or Middle East after August 1943 according to the next diary ref number.

Fabulous Paul! Nice to finally get so many questions answered. Post them up, always interested to see new ones. I can't wait to get my Grandfather's. We just past the 9 month mark of waiting. Nice one, Paul. I know exactly how you feel when the records finally arrive and confirm a few things. It's a very satisfying feeling isn't it?
