    Great thread.

    Wot no Engines?

Love the chap who pulls on the glider rope to see if it will take the weight of the tug rope, slight difference!!!!!

If you are looking for those two ex POW guys and l would love to find their relatives, lets not look in the acting fraternity!!!!

Is there anything about the liberation of Stalag 357, Fallingbostal?

    Regards,

    Nick

Nick it looks like you found yourself a little project ... I can only think that all the lighting and relighting of smokes in the POW accounts had something to do with the cameraman's idea of continuity for later editing? You have to wonder though if it ever made it beyond the rough cut stage.

    Regards ...

    Battle of Arnhem

In memory of the Battle of Arnhem a couple of well known British Pathe videos, Greatest Sky Armada in History (1944) and "Red Devils" of Arnhem.

    Brithm,

Though brief that's certainly a favourite of mine ... :) I'll include the YouTube version along with a similar one showing men of the1st Airborne Division being honoured at Buckingham Palace after Arnhem.

I noticed Jonathan recently posted the following newsreel on his Twitter feed and thought it would make a good addition here. At the end Lieutenant General Sir Frederick Arthur Montague 'Boy' Browning gives a little speech.

The Army Has Wings 1942 - British Pathe

I like the title of this one. I'm not sure where word pantechnicon comes from, but I assume in this case it is referring to something that is very big, is capable of flight and can carry a lot of stuff.

6 years later! Noticed this comment, that’s Marshal Rosokovsky visiting Montys HQ in Dr Unruh Straße in Wismar. I located that spot when I went there the other year. On google maps the house is at the bottom of the street, and where the 21 gun salute takes place is now a football pitch.

    Hi

I am fairly sure that I have been told one of the two POW's sitting on the bench being interviewed is John Richards who was awarded the MM for Arnhem with the 1st Battalion. As he was Welsh and the main speaker clearly doesn't have any trace of an accent I presume it must be the other man wearing the BD.

    Cheers
