Hi Andy, One of many then like me you only have to look at Paul's to see that LOL God the man's mad.... Cheers Tom
I am forwarding the images to Andy and Tom one at a time to get through bandwith restrictions. With the list from the book, do you already have the grave photographs for Brown, Dossetor, Johnson and McDowall ? Edit - I just looked those four up and two are in Tocumwal and Port Moresby, so I can't help there (yet). Brown is in Richmond so I am attaching his gravestone photo and emailing it as well. For Dossetor, I don't have anything specific for him but I am sending a general shot of the Sydney Memorial (that is the best I have for now).
I have had a quick look through the on-line archives and so far only three of the men from the 1st Para Bn that died on active service have had their files digitised: VX44388 SMITH QX20247 MCVEIGH (Coronial inquest on file - as is his charge for destruction of NSW Railways property and subsequent 3 quid fine) VX29955 GOVETT, DENZIL LESLIE (his wife gave birth to a daughter a few months after his death - it's amazing what you find when trying to research someone) Coronial inquest on file states that he died in aircraft accident at Limeburners Creek 14/10/43. Have worked out that he was on board RAAF A34 De Havilland DH-84 Dragon A34-37 when it crashed. This crash also killed Major Smith and the RAAF pilot Sgt Holdingdale. Army Sgt Moran and RAAF LAC Barlow (no relation) survived the crash, and the war.
Hi Andi. Suffolk pictures as promised. There does not appear to be a headstone for WELLER-POLEY but only this stained glass window in his memory, boxted church is also pictured. Hitcham All Saints, sorry but just the headstone,it was just getting dark, took quite some finding, Boxted church is Holy Trinity not All Saints, and i believe stands in the grounds of the WELLER-POLEY estate where the family have been in residence for over 500 years and still are, the church contains many family members back to 1638, the stained glass window is for your man regards LOFTY
Hi Roy, Thanks to you will be added them to my collection.. Nice to have a glass in which to remember him by more for the collection... Cheers Tom
Dave/Lofty Thanks for those. Apologies for not replying sooner but life's a bit hectic at the moment! Too much work and not enough hours in the day! and when I get in, food and bed so not too much time for Internet work! Thanks again Andy
