Years ago I read reports that when meeting up with Russian Forces in Berlin British Airborne Troops were so appalled with the Russian troops gang raping German women that they opened fire on them..
I have not been able to find those reports now.

    Hi,

Just looking at this old post and wondered if any Allied Airborne Forces actually ended up in Berlin at war's end? The 6th Airborne certainly had their encounters with the Russians in the area around Wismar on the Baltic. I threw together a PDF with a variety of accounts and pics in an attempt to capture the spirit of those early interactions between the Reds and the 6th Airborne. Available for preview or download here:

If you can add anything or notice egregious mistakes don't hesitate to let me know.

    Regards ...

As per what Cee says, 6th Airborne got as far as Wismar.
Obviously delegations went straight away, not sure who were the first bulk of troops that ended up in Berlin to man the admin areas set out.

    Hi,

One of best known photos of the Airborne link-up with Russian tankmen was taken by Sgt. Harry Oakes of 5 AFPU.

But lesser known is that he was accompanied by a cine cameraman, pehaps Bill Lawrie, recording some of the same events.
