I have just finished reading the novel by Peter Fitzsimons titled Kokoda..Can someone please explain to me why the 2nd 12th Battalion didnt rate one single mention in the entire book?..Thanks.
He's on twitter. Why not ask him directly. https://mobile.twitter.com/Peter_Fitz?ref_src=twsrc^google|twcamp^serp|twgr^author
Welcome to the forum. Not a fan of Fitzsimons books but weren't the 2/12th at Milne Bay, not Kokoda? If it makes you feel any better they only receive a brief mention in Paul Ham's book on Kokoda, towards the end when he talks about the Sanananda battles, after the Kokoda Campaign. Scott
Thanks Scott..Yep you are correct but as Milne Bay receives numerous mentions (along with a couple on Tobruk) I find it a tad insulting that they received not one mention.
Official history is a good place to start if you want to follow 2/12th in New Guinea- Volume V – South–West Pacific Area – First Year: Kokoda to Wau (1st edition, 1959) Scott
Thanks again Scott .Are you familiar with the publications Of Storms and Rainbows (A.L.Graeme Author) ? Two editions dedicated to the 2/12ths service in Tobruk and New Guinea. Dad, who was at both obtained copies of these books many many years ago and they are both great reads. Thanks again for your above link I will hop onto it now. Leo.
No I haven't seen those two and looking at the price of second hand copies I would insure them I'm guessing you are in Victoria or Tasmania? Keep an eye out for privately published memoirs locally if you are in the area where the battalion was recruited. My interest is local NSW servicemen and local Op Shops and book fairs have yielded a few finds. Peter Brune's books on New Guinea are worth reading. Scott
Hi Leo, both books are very detailed and excellent Battalion histories. I enjoyed reading them. Ryan.
