Aeroplane Part? What Plane?

Hi guys,

I picked this up the other day and thought you all might like a look and also hope you can help ID the object for me.

It is a jar of some sort, the lid is made from the bottom of a shell case and the main body is made from 1 peice of Aluminium. It is quite heavy and i thought that it is an Aeroplane part? What do you think?

Why, it looks exactly like my great-grandmother funerary urn!

 

Is it a pulley of some kind? Is it keyed?

 

Keyed? It has no facility to be locked if thats what you mean? Also, i dont think it is a pulley, it stands about 3.5 Inches tall and about 4.5 Inches wide.
