Hi, I am new to the forum and this is my first post. I have been researching my uncle Private Thomas Major. His service no. is 5382995. and he served with the 1st battalion of the Oxfordshire and Buckinghamshire Light Infantry. He served in France as part of the British Expeditionary Force. He was listed as missing presumed wounded on or around 30th May and died on 1st June 1940. He is commemorated at the Dunkirk memorial but does not have a grave. Questions I would like answered are - if he was wounded and died 2 days later why would there be no grave? Also I would like to know where he was when he died and how he died. Can anyone advise me if it may be possible to find this info and point me in the right direction.
    Thanks John.

As you are aware the Dunkirk memorial is for casualties with no known grave.

Hi Clive, my mother (sister to Thomas) has a letter stating missing presumed wounded and another which arrived weeks later stating died 1st June. I believe some of the Ox and Bucks fought in Belgium in the battle of the Ypres - Comines canal and wondered if he may have been there. Thanks for your reply and the links. John

I can't see him in the regimental missing men file. I'm wondering if he has no known grave because he was drowned at sea whilst being evacuated if he was wounded several days before his recorded death.

I'd definitely look at getting a copy of his records and see if it records him being wounded etc.

    Hello John
If you do decide to get your uncles records, I would be really interested to hear his story, I've got the war chronicles covering the dates you asked about, you never know it might say something about the company or platoon he was in, in them.
My grandfather was in the 1st Buckinghamshire Battalion (TA), which is part of the ox and bucks, thats why I have a interest in the regiment.
    All the best Adam

HI Adam, I'm searching for a great uncles information. He had no children so I feel I need to gain as much information as possible. He served in the 4th battalion ox and bucks and was captured at Cassel. I am struggling to gain his liberation papers to see which POW camp he was in and what he did there. I do know he was in the initial camp and may have been transferred from there. Do you have any information concerning this. I can forward his details if needed.
