My Great Grandfather was in WW1
    Fred Hall Born 24th Sept 1892 - Died 19th Jun 1960

I have his medal card (attached) which shows:
Durham Light Infantry Rank Private Regtl. No 4464
Loyal North Lancashire Regiment Rank Private Regtl. No 26549

    Award Victory + British Medals

I also have a 'Certificate of employment during the war' which shows that he was in the 12th Battalion within the Loyal North Lancashire.

    QUESTIONS:
Is there anyway to match a Regtl. No 4464 to a battalion or regiment within the Durham Light Infantry?
Any suggestions on any further information I can try and look up?

Hi autonm and welcome to the forum.
Standard answer is to send off for his service record:
Ministry of Defence | About Defence | What we do | Personnel | Service Records | Making a Request for Information held on the Personnel Records of Deceased Service Personnel

It will cost £30 and take several months to arrive. Be sure to ask for a copy of the full record.
When it arrives post relevant pages here and you will get lots of help and advice, such as where to find unit diaries etc.
Good luck and keep us informed.

    Mike - thanks for that.

Do they carry information for WW1? As I was reading around that site and it says :

    "British Army Service Records

The Army Personnel Centre Historical Disclosures Section holds Army Service records for officers whose service ended after April 1922 and soldiers whose service ended after January 1921. Information from these records can be requested under the MOD Publication Scheme."

Which doesnt mention anything for WW1 soldiers ?

    Thanks

The WWI service records which exist are generally available on Ancestry, there are some exceptions but it is worth a look.

I have just had a quick look, and couldn't see him, but it was a quick look. If you don't have access at home, often your local library has an account which will give you access.

I agree with above - try Ancestry - MOD is for post 1921 records.

Are you aware of Great War Forum? Similar to WW2 Talk but for WW1 issues.
