I understand and appreciate the need for advertising banners on this site and think it is a small price to pay for the use of this super forum.

I do have, however, one query.

I recently used the internet to send someone some flowers via the M&S site and therefore was not surprised when the advertising banner showed the same flowers for the next few days.

My query relates to the ad entitled "Date 10,000 Asian ladies"

To the best of my knowledge I haven't made any previous searching on this subject so am I to think that the advertisers are just anticipating my possible interests ?

Ron-I have been getting that advert for a while.
When it started popping up, I asked my husband if he had been looking at those kind of sites:lol:. He swore he hadn't and I can tell you there was a big of leg pulling going on from me;).
It certainly wasn't me so I don't know where the advert came from!

    I barely notice them.

    Same here
Just after checking, and I get ads either for ladies underwear or for army recruitment.
Make of that what you will.:p
Would be concerned generally about my computer housekeeping only if ads were bang on target.

Some are based on browsing history, depending how closed-down your pooter is, and how signed-up to Google in general you are.
Some are context-based, depending on links, words, etc. on the page itself.
Some are forced in regardless, depending on someone handing over more cash for a campaign.

It appears to be ever so slightly working for them:

Ron, maybe living in Cockfosters and mentioning it in your posts affects how Google views you..

...and perhaps the line in your signature "...who will be for me?" is going to make you a target for dating agencies...

I get a pretty eclectic mix.

Tonight its an MBNA credit ad, a U.S. military magazine, A Czech tourist ad and one for Hydro One, our electricity supplier.
To be honest, none of those provides the temporary ego boost you get from local, large breasted women who are dying to meet you.
    Just sayin.

I don't get any. It could be the cunning strategies I have in place or just that we don't need to find dates in Oz - no comments about Baaahbara or Skippy please..

As the ads shown are determined by your search history and by key words from thread that you are reading, it's likely that writing a post complaining about a particular ad will cause it to appear.

I tend to get the German ads for the video game World of Tanks, of which I have never played.

This could be due to my liking of AFV's :D

So why do I get ads for L'Oréal hair products when I'm totally bald, and from a Catalonian construction company when my only acquaintance in Barcelona is with the airport lobby?

    No 10,000 Chinese ladies, though.

    Portugal's a special case.
Nobody knows where the money is these days, so instead of a targeted demographic package you just get any random ad in the hope one makes sense eventually.

    Probably.

I can only speak from my own experience. Yesterday I carried out a number of Google searches for information on PC printers because mine has given up. All the ads that I've seen on this forum today are for printers.

Whenever I book, or just search for, a hotel online I see lots of ads for hotels either in that place or belonging to the chain that I booked with.

As I mentioned earlier in the thread, the fans forum of Hearts football club gets a lot of lonely hearts ads and also ones for other football clubs, usually ones that are being slated in the thread in question.

The most offensive example that I've seen was an ad for motor engine spare parts on a website that explained how the Nazis used the carbon monoxide produced by motor engines to murder Jews.

Could the ads on this site for Asian Ladies be because keywords have been picked up from a thread discussing the Japanese use of Comfort Women?

I understand completely the connection between my earlier puchase of a flower basket and the subsequent ads appearing on the banner heading.

The mystery is purely the offer of many ladies from the Orient !

Pleased to report that Mrs.G believes me when I say it's nothing to do with me :)

It could be that the hotels, printer manufacturers and suppliers of flower baskets have taken out a premium product that places their ads according to keyword searches.

Perhaps the supplier of Asian ladies has paid less, and thus its ads are more random and less targeted.
