I've just found that the Australian Navy have digitised some British Admiralty Fleet Orders and I've managed to download two. I tried others but they would not open.

One .pdf has an AFO from 1945 which refers to British Royal Navy individuals by name, number, ship, and, sometimes, peacetime occupation. See here for that one, which deals with "Block releases":

For the Australian Navy page index of AFO's digitised see here:

Thanks, very useful info often buried in administrative clutter. I've had no trouble opening up several with no problem.
The Australians are way ahead of the UK in digitising WW2 archives and then providing free access.

Thanks, the Australians certainly lead the way in opening up records and making them available. I could not have started on my research without "Trove".

Thanks again, I've not explored the AWM much. Bit of a contrast to the IWM, which had a decent online index for their documents about ten years ago, then ruined it. They also had a decent reading room, but they.....words fail me !

As I am particularly interested in the FE and FEPOWs what I like about the the AWM is that the digitised info is online and FREE. There is a lot of useful info to be gleaned in areas where UK and Australian forces were operating together. Same probably applies to the AWM Histories covering North Africa, Greece, Crete etc although I haven't looked at them.
