Planning a trip for later in the year, likely to be 3-4 in the group, all male. Looking for suggestions of accomodation, planning to spend most of our time (of a 3-4 day trip) around sword beach, as tracing a relatives experience who came in one this beach. Would also like to visit St Manvieu cmtry. Any suggestions or advice would be great. Ali
Ali, Why don't you try the site of the Gites de France? They have some great places to stay.... Here is the link: http://www.gites-de-france.fr/eng/choisir2/pagechoisir2.htm We found our little place also from this site, it is right on the Beach at Asnelles (Gold Beach) with a spectacular view of the Mulberry...See my picture in 'D-Day + 60', the first one was taken from our bedroom window! Nice people, when we left, they gave us a small bottle of home brewed Calvados... It is not really cheap --590 EUR for a week in the high season, but worth every cent! Besides, when you go with 4 persons, it is not all that expensive... Please note that the place is booked solid until the end of August..... Here is some more info about it: Gîte n°1422 "Rue du havre heurtaut" Description of surroundings : This gîte has a direct access to the sand beach. Surrounded by a enclosed garden it is the perfect place ce family holidays. Description of gîte : Independant house. Thanks for the link, I'm about ot have a quick look. Its likely we won't be going for a while, due to the logistics of everyone getting the time off work and families. Cheers again Ali
I know the feeling..... Had the same problem with our trip for the 60th..... Now we are planning a trip for a weekend to the Ardennes in december, that will be fun, too (but ho so cold!)
Can't recommend gites de france high enough - we also used them no problems at all very high standard of accomodation We stayed at Bernieres sur Mer on Juno Ryan
Well, not this year, but I visited it a couple of years ago..... Don't remember much about that cemetery in particular, because in the course of 15 visits to Normandy, I think I visited them all....

I have a friend, a member of this forum in fact, who has recently bought a Gite in Normandy. The details are: “GITE WYVERN” is a restored cottage in a tranquil location 1.5km from Clecy, in Suisse Normande. It is ideally situated for exploring the D-Day landing beaches and the WW2 inland battles such as Falaise, Hill 112 and Mont Pincon. It is also well placed to explore this beautiful part of France known as Suisse Normande - with its wonderful walks, canoeing, fishing and golf (the nearest golf course 400m away). Caen 38 kms Bayeux 53 kms Thury Harcourt 10kms Falaise 23 kms Villers Bocage 29 kms The Gite is a stone built detached house situated in its own large grounds with ample private car parking to front and side. The gently sloping secluded garden is to the rear. At the bottom of the garden are newly planted trees and a small brook. The accommodation consists of a large lounge/diner with 2 sofas, dining table and a kitchen corner. There are 3 bedrooms. A twin bedroom on the ground floor, a further twin upstairs and a king size bed in the main upstairs bedroom. A shower room and separate toilet are on the ground floor. The kitchen area has 2 hob rings, microwave, and worktop oven and grill. There is a fridge, dishwasher and coffee maker and a full range of crockery. Washing Machine. TV and DVD player and CD stereo. Outside there is a BBQ and garden furniture. Photo of it below. Email me if you want to be put in touch with them.
Hi Paul, Thanks for the details on both St Manvieu and the gite, I might be interested in the accomodation but until I can get a firmer idea on exact numbers and date options I'll hold off for now. Saying that it wouldn't harm to get a rough quote for 4 days (prob Fri-Mon) sometime in September if thats possible, once I have priced the trip I should get a more accurate idea of who is really interested. Regards Ali
