Folks, I photographed some WW2 Signs and an Item today which I am hoping you can assist me with. The Signs say "D.Coy V.M. Cadre" - I know the D Company bit but what would the V.M. Cadre refer to? - The Regiment may have been R.A.S.C. There were Standing Orders from 10th Battalion East Surrey Regiment Dated 15th February 1943 titled "P.A.D. and Fire Orders" - Feint writing on damp paper so may be P.A.O. or Similar - What would this refer to? My photograph shows a wooden Case which has been secured to the Base which appears to have been specially constructed for it. There has been a lock on the case. Written on a wall opposite is "Anti-Gas" however I do not know if this is related. Any assistance would be very much appreciated.
According to our old abbreviation list, which is now here: British Army: Abbreviations & Acronyms - WWII Open Resource Group PAD - Passive Air Defence VM - Vehicle Maintenance
A cadre is a course. Normally used with promotion courses, I.e, junior NCO's or Sergeants Cadre. Alex.
