Anyone know what "RP 1/4/42" and "To Y" b" means in these records, or care to take a guess? Had a look at some previous threads here and RP can stand for Regimental Police. I know these records can have some unusual and unique abbreviations but I hadn't seen "To Y b" anywhere before.
Looking at your 'Y b' if you look along that line to the date column I suspect that it is '7 b' as opposed to 'Y b' Maybe 7th Battalion ?? a couple of months later hes shipped of to the 30th RP could be something like reprimand ?? dont really know, but he was a naughty boy on 5th Apr 1943 What regiment was he with? a full copy of his service record might help and obviously he was also a Sargeant and a Pipe Major at some point TD
He was in 1st battalion Royal Irish Fusiliers. That is interesting you suggested he was perhaps posted to a 7th battalion. I did a quick search and the Irish Fusiliers only had 2 battalions. I have no idea what the 30th was. It doesn't appear to have been a battalion or division in the British army. Does anyone know more about that? In 1943 he transferred to the Royal Inniskilling Fusiliers.
Hi, I don’t think the RP entry is a date. It is in the column that usually notes the “order” for the “action” in the next column that took place/record updated on the date in the last column. My less than educated guess is that RP, in the sense of a type of army order, is that it possibly means “Removed Personnel” (from the Battalion to the Y list)? The Y usually denotes a move to the Y list. There were several sub sections within the Y list that changed as the war progressed so you need to use the forum search facility for Y Lists. Good Luck Steve EDIT TO ADD I’d also guess it concerned an absence on medical grounds but as MOD don’t provide medical information that is conjecture on my part.
