Can anyone tell me when the Soldier's Pay and Service Book and Officer's Service Books were in use? I assume they were replaced by ID cards eventually...

    Cheers,

    Neil.

I believe AB64's came into use around 1908 (I have an article somewhere so can confirm the proper date) and I have seen them up to mid 1950's - AB439's I don't know when they started but mid WW1 is the earliest I have seen and again I have seen these into the 1950's

    Not sure if that helps

Just checked and 1906 the AB64 was introduced - on the AB439 I have found a webpage noting it was introduced mid WW1 but stopped being used after WW1 and was reintroduced 1941

    Thanks - it does.
I have an AB439 to an officer commissioned in February 1915 - but of course he may have been issued with it at a later date.

It should have a print date right at the end to let you know if it was issued at that point or back dated a little later
