I've been rereading the A13 articles by Peter Brown published in Military Modelling in 2010 and 2011. The last article, Part 9, in the May 2011 issue has a complete listing of tanks used by 5RTR in April 1941. However, T9190, an A13MkIIa is shown twice, once in B Squadron and once in C Squadron. Does anyone know which is correct and what the other one should be. I have considered that, given the the number sequencing on the B Sqn tanks in the listing, i.e. T9190 is shown after T9168 and before T9171(out of sequence), that this could be a typo and may be meant to be T9170. However pictures show that T9170 was lost in France by 5RTR. So maybe it is meant to be T9169? Can anyone please help clarifying this. Regards Jamie
I would have thought the most likely answer was tanks simply being transferred between squadrons to even them up, or some other admin need.
Hi Jamie, i am searching Census Number of a tank lost in El Mekili by 5th RTR on 8th april 1941. Do you have any information about that? Enzus
Hi Jamie, Many moons ago I came across the same anomaly and, after playing with the numbers and looking through the WDs and battle reports, finally decided it was a double entry. ie. The same tank, listed in two separate places rather than two separate tanks which broke down in the same location and a typo left to confuse us. Hope that helps.
Thankyou for the feedback, in the absence of any other evidence seems a double entry is the most likely explanation.
