This isn't a Holocaust book, but an account of the experiences of soldiers and civilians in the Great War. But I was quite chilled to read extracts from a German soldier's diary - he served in Galicia and was venomous about Jewish citizens there and wrote quite casually about beating them up. On leaving Galcia, he wrute that they had been too gentle with people there and would not be so a second time. Really chilling. Marina
