A visual approach of almost 25.000 events in WW2, presented on maps and Google coordinations. Many more records are waiting for publishing. Maps constructed for various purposes. Many of you have relevant information to improve and share this information by adding, editting and by comments on these records. See for yourself: http://www.backtonormandy.org/the-maps.html
Brilliant! Kuddos! Please duplicate this thread onto our sister forum: http://www.ww2f.com/ AND onto that spectacularly good (and active) "Axis Nations Focus area" (English Language) Forum: http://forum.12oclockhigh.net/index.php Tnx!
If anyone can access the website could they please look and see if there is anything on the maps for Plumetot / Cresserons please (just to the north of Caen)?
Thanks for looking, Lesley. Basically, what information was being provided about these villages, which I researched as part of my university studies. Before WW2 the French built a small aerodrome here, the Germans used it during the Occupation and then by the Allies after the Normandy Landings (designation 'B10'). Also, one of my uncles was based in Plumetot for several weeks after the Normandy Landings so I have a family connection and affinity for the commune. I have seen some maps of the airstrip in the archives in France. Hence, seeing this new tranche of data I was wondering if there was anything new that might be of interest. Unfortunately, I have been unable to access the 'Back to Normandy' website so I cannot see if there is anything of interest. For example, I wondered if there was anything about the R.E. work on the airstrip making it suitable for Allied planes?
About Plumetot on Back to Normandy I found this: - The Princess Irene Brigade stayed 4 days there 9-12 August 1944 - About 27 records for the period until august 1st 1944 I put two screen dumps
3 or 4 march 1944 Count E de Dampierre had a forced landing with a Lysander IIIa V9605 MA-B in Plumetot. This record is not yet published on Back to Normandy
No, unfortunately not, Fred. In fact I cannot see the 'screen dump' images you have attempted to put into your previous posts above. I have kept attempting to access the site but without success. I assume one or more of your volunteers / contributors must have found the maps in the various national and regional archives before posting it on 'Back to Normandy'?
The maps are generated by the website using the records with Google Maps on Back to Normandy. At the moment almost 25.000 records. 99.99% of the records are written by me. Unfortunately there are no volunteers except one person writing abiut the Camerons.
