The village being Holmeswood, in West Lancashire; it was compiled by Ellen Mee, and published by Holmeswood Methodist Church in 1995. I was at the church on Sunday (the village's war memorial plaque is there) and there were still three copies left, so I bought one, cost £5 - the proceeds went to charity. It's primarily about the men and women of the village who served in the Forces during and after WW2, those who contributed in other ways, and goes up to 1960 covering National Service. Lots of photographs included.

Although I have no connection with Holmeswood, I found this to be a lovely book, and the compiler and the church should be congratulated for recording so much history that would otherwise have been lost with time.

Thank you, TD. He was the only fatality mentioned in the book with a direct connection to the village. However, there's also "A British plane crashed onto a field on the Moss. The young pilot was killed." [presumably Holmeswood Moss]
