    Hello Everyone

I hope someone might be able to educate me, so i can in turn educate some older relatives.

While clearing out a garden shed the other day, i came across some old letters, written to my mother in laws grandmother during the WW2, dated 1940-41. They are badly faded / damaged so working out the detail contained within them is quite hard.

No one has really spoken about family for years, but i am intrigued by these letters, some of which i have managed to decipher etc, but a few, i am struggling with. The author has given his address etc as

    DVR 124213
    E Platoon
    279 G T Coy
RASE (but could be a "C")

    and another as

    DVR 124213
    E Platoon
    279 G T Coy
    1544 LAA
    REGT RA
RASE (but could be a "C")

I am assuming it is a transportation unit of some kind, but i am a novice at this, so any help identifying what the Regt would have been, where they might have been etc, would be much appreciated.

    Many Thanks

    Richie

    Richie -
Looks like he was a driver in a General Transport unit of the RASC attached to a Light Ack- Ack regiment of the Royal Artillery .They were all over the place so we would need more to find out where they were - at anytime !
    Cheers

I am assuming its Light Anti Aircraft Reg, Royal Artillery, but there are others far more qualified than me that would be able to help.

"DVR 124213" would I be right to assume that is a service number and, if so, that the chaps Service Record will be available to next of kin (for a fee and 6month wait) from the MoD?

best regards and welcome to the forum

Thanks for the assistance and the welcomes, its much appreciated.

So how does one go about trying to find out where abouts he was at any given time??

I intend to get the service record of this particular chap and another......does anyone know, what details you get for your fee???

Richie - technically for the 30GBP you should get verse and chapter of anyone's service - but as we all know there are many gaps for various reasons and so it's very much of what they have - you get - as we see from EXPAT 1968 - this is NOTTA LOT !
    Cheers
