Found in the “In Memoriam” section of a Cornish newspaper dated 20 December 1945, on the first anniversary of the death Sgt Gordon Pope, 2923 Squadron RAF Regiment, who was killed in action in Greece.

In an RAF grave in some foreign land

Sleeps one we loved so dear

A smiling face that won’t come home

When they sound the last “all clear "

I often sit and think of you

When no eyes can see me weep

And many a silent tear I shed

    When others are fast asleep

I think of you in silence

    and often speak your name.

But all that's left to answer is

    your photo in a frame
