In the story of "As Far as My Feet Will Carry Me" it shows the German POWs were kept in the lead mine where they ate, slept and were worked to death. Very few ever got out of the mine after they were brought there to work as slaves. In "Stalingrad" you see the huge waste of human lives and the stupidity of the war and some of the real fools running the operations from German side. Then you see some of the German soldiers questioning their officers about why in the world are we here, why did you allow us to fall into this mess and on. More then once I read that even "Das Boot" was not allowed to be viewed in Germany for a long time.
I know this one and another made by Germans "Stalingrad" were not allowed to be viewed in Germany because it would bring back some really bad feelings and memories. Not true, as when I was driving through Germany on way to Prague back in early 1993 I saw lots of posters for the film.
I don't doubt what you have said Owen, I am only repeating what we were told over here on some of the sites selling the movie in the states. You saw this your self and that is enough for me, thank you setting this straight. We have a woman at church whose father was a POW of the Russians. He returned to Germany in the 1950s. They migrated to the USA but his health was never good after his time as a POW and he died sometime later. Her mother is still alive. The daughter said when I asked her how in the world did he make it through that time and back to Germany said her father said it was through the kindness of some of the Russians who gave him aid and food.
