I have found out nearly everything about my grandad when he was in the 59th Infantry Division. The last place the 2/5 Lancashire Fusiliers war diary say they were is Compiliers in a rest area west of the Orne river, and 5 days later it says the companies were broken up and dispatched to different divisions under the 21st Army Group. B Company under command of a Major Follett was sent to the 2nd Gordon Highlanders, 15th Div. that's where i loose him.

All i know after that is that he wasn't fully incorporated into the G.H, and that he was posted near Eindhoven in case the Americans didn't hold out in the Bulge. This is where he was discharged.

So to sum up, that's 4 months unaccounted for. Any ideas or help?

    Hello Daniel,

Do you have your grandad's service records? These should show where and when he was posted!

    Best,

    Steve.

Gordon Highlanders and 15th Scottish div were near Geel, Belgium 6th September, their task to widen the corridor North of the Wilhelmina canal. They were in the area of Best, Hollland mid September, and fought to liberate Best. I think 2nd Gordons arrived in Best 25th September.

    Hi Steve,

I do not have his service records because he doesn't like talking about the war and i don't want to ask him to fill in the form (which he will think is too much of a hassle to do)

You should fill out the form and ask for his autograph, Daniel. :D

Make sure you ask for his FULL service records!

    Best,

    Steve.
