Firstly thanks all for the great welcome you have all extended me but i have a few questions.

Is this website a privately owned by one individual or a few enthusiasts. The reason i ask is because i would like to ask someone about starting a youtube channel for the forums (unless there is already one up and running).

I thought it would be a great place for users to post up their videos of ww2 related stuff such as tours they have been on, videos of their memorabilia or home movies of the war or even their photo collections as a slideshow. Then it would all be in one place for people to look through and reference.

I would also create an introduction video for the channel and the forums as i have experience with sony vegas, editing video and creating media introduction videos.

If there is no need for this just let me know but i thought i would put it out there as it may be a good addition to this website.

The site is owned by 'Otto', who you'll find in the member list.
He leaves all 'local' decisions to us though.

A very kind offer, but I'm a smidge cautious of too much exposure on places like Youtube, as it's crawling with just the kind of loons we do quite well at avoiding really - my belief is that slow and steady content-generated growth is a bit better than overt 'advertising' of the site.
It's worked so far at retaining our 'flavour', without being flooded with the 'Tigerz R Kule', 'What If, and 'My Army's better than your Army' brigade...

    Others may disagree though?

Not to say yours is a bad idea Privatesmart, but I'm with you on this one Adam. "Talk" has that warm & fuzzy family run B & B feel to it. You want to go back, and when you do everyone remembers your name.

Adam... could a video gallery not be added to the forum alongside the photo gallery?

Talk is a proactive forum you give as much as you want to, you accept fellow members questions/information and most importantly if you make an error/mistake you hold your hand up and say so no one comes back with snide comments.

It give you that sort of well worn feeling and you know you are among friends with that warm fuzzy feeling.

There is a place for videos and most people use it the POST they are nearly all linked in some way to a relevant thread so lets leave it.

Ok no problem. I thought i would put it out there. I've only been a member for a few days so I'm learning how this place works compared to other forums I've been a member of. Your most likely right anyway I'm just an over eager newbie

I always think of WW2talk as one of my favourite pubs. No Juke Box ,TV or piped music. A mix of people from the very clever or of great experience down to the likes of me who do a lot of listening. Any nutters seem to find us a boring lot....thats fine by me.

The only nuts allowed are the ones we nibble at during our long-winded (pre-)pissing contests about our favourite beer.

Judging by the appaling quality of the comments visible on Youtube: no, thank you.

I have to agree with the comments above - I like this forum the way it is, friendly, welcoming, not over-exposed like u-tube etc, and non-judgmental to the likes of me that does not have the vast knowledge that others on this site have :)

Apropos YOUTUBE, much as I admit to enjoying quite a lot of the videos one sees there I am equally appalled by some of the ghastly comments made by a lot of the "viewers".

By contrast, I get so much pleasure from the learned discussion and helpful comment on this forum that I would be loth to see any changes in that direction.

Having said that, I am genuinely impressed that you felt sufficiently at home here to be able to make your suggestion so early and look forward to your future comments.

    Best regards

    Ron

Thankyou Ron, Its the welcome i got as much as anything that made me feel so welcome and confident to make a suggestion, though a little premature it may have been.

I haven't posted regularly on a forum in a while so i'm just trying to get into the groove again, more content less spam i believe is the motto of the forumer.

Thanks again all for the replies.
