Re. SERJEANT GEORGE HENRY HOLE - 549147

    Died of wounds.

Nb. Albeit the "Bright" reference says (for when he was wounded 24d10m1942) - "had been killed" - although he actually - died of wounds - some months later.

Nothing in the war diary, strangely enough, they were shelled and dive-bombed that day but not engaged in any way.

    All the best

I don't think that there is much to go by via this route either...

    - The Royal Lancers Museum at Derby

Or by simply Googling the name etc.

The War Graves site does also have...

    20230125_091538.jpg

Which, I think, references that he was perhaps previously buried as an "unknown". There were a few 9th Lancers from around then that were commemorated as "with no known grave" and some of the dates of death are noted as bring slightly different, depending on where the information is seen. Additionally it doesn't always seem clear - in what records there are currently online - whether individuals were immediately kia, died later of wounds or were missing and later found to have died, rather than being taken prisoner of war.

Yes, given the chaos of the flight of 2 Armoured Brigade, I would take the dates with some caution.
