Adam, you may need to console yourself with reading the supplement in situ at IWM, or SOAS who also have a copy.

There are a few copies of Strike home: the Royal Bucks. Yeomanry, 1794-1967 around, apparently including one at TNA.

You may need to apply for access to the university libraries but they are often accommodating if you explain to them the rarity of the books. And don’t forget to try the inter-library loan system – you never know!

All recommendation for medals could be bought, for £3.5, and downloaded from TNA site. For example link for recommendation for Bryan Bonsor:

While ago all those recommendation files could be downloaded for free, for some reason. TNA removed that option but I succeeded to get all those files for the Far East, some for Italy and few for the North Africa so if you need any other from those files I have I would gladly provide them for you.

 

Sounds like a good move on your part, and thanks for the offer. I wonder if you could help, I will make a new thread for this but my Great Uncle was awarded a DFC. Any idea where I would get the medal card for that?

 

The National Archives should have recommendation for DFC. At least it says so:

The collection includes recommendations for the following awards, presented in order of precedence (descriptions based on the system in force before 1993):

I'm not sure I never looked for awards to RAF members. Try to use TNA search engine but remember to search under records not website. Maybe some forum members more experienced with RAF could give your more info.

So that's what I thought but I was there on Tuesday and could not find a thing. It's not to say it isn't there but it wasn't making an appearance for me!

 

I suggest that you create forum thread about him first as it could attract more members who could help as it could pass unnoticed in this thread. I'm definitely not a right person for RAF things.

 

DFC Medal Citation

 

Was he with 393 Battery or F Troop of 472 Battery in the Arakan? 393 Battery was filmed in action on the 10th of March 1943, and the footage may still survive. Around the same time A Troop somehow got a howitzer into the front line to engage a pillbox at about 100 yards.

You've probably seen the sketch map of FDL Chaung in the War Diary if you're researching that period, but the other day I turned up an annotated photo of the Japanese front line where 99 Fd. Regt. was fighting, probably taken from an OP on 'Twin Knobs'. I can get a scan of it if it's of any use to you.
