Hi everyone - I’m looking for an image of William Wilder - Japanese POW known for his drawings of life in captivity building the Thailand Burma railway - does any one know of one exists?

Not sure what you’re asking……do you mean a picture of “his drawings” while in captivity

Or information on him?? (Like a photo of him)??

And if it is a Photo of him, we need more info…..I did a quick search and their is more that one “William Wilder” held in Japanese POW camps

Hiya - I think part of my original post was a typo. I'm looking for an image of him as an individual. His name was William Carthew Wilder, he was in 135th Regiment Field Artillery, captured in the battle of Singapore. I suspect he was in 344 battery, but don't know for sure. 992683.

Summary of an oral interview is on: AUDIO - William Carthew Wilder recounts his experiences in Far East | COFEPOW Which confirms he was with the 135th Field Regt.

It appears he wrote a book, available on Google Boooks, that was published in 1962. I have only glanced at the book. See: The Wilder Family Or via: William Carthew Wilder | Open Library

The Order of Service for his funeral is held @ Oxford, but states he attended Culham College: ttps://archiveshub.jisc.ac.uk/search/archives/915ab0f4-8adf-3020-9691-a9df646d337d?component=4cd2568f-a245-3fdf-bf46-1123dce5d92d It appears he may have died 24/7/1998, though this could be the date of publication.

Might be worth checking with the College's Old Boys Association or the College themselves for a photo.

Slightly off-topic some of his artwork from an undated exhibition @ Liverpool University (not clear why there): Further Information - FEPOW Survival - Victoria Gallery & Museum - University of Liverpool

    No photo readily found online.

Thank you. I couldn't find a photo either. I have spotted the book and have messaged the seller to see if it includes any photographs, or is more of a genealogy chart. For background, my grandfather (now passed away) was also in the same regiment. He had passed down to us some hand signed drawings by William. The drawings are copies, but the signature is real. I have a number of photos of my grandfather with other soldiers of his regiment, one in particular with 8 of them, and I'm wondering if William is one of them. We don't have names for any of 7 with my grandfather, or a date of the photo.

I'll keep this thread updated if I find anything!

Just to update, the book doesnt have photos in it so I'm on to my next option - I've reached out to the creator of the Wilder family tree on Ancestry
